CapCut Pro vs Free (2026): What’s Actually Worth It?

CapCut comes in three flavors: the free app, the paid Pro subscription, and third-party “mod” builds. Here’s how they actually compare — so you can decide what’s worth your money (and your risk).

What CapCut Pro actually unlocks

The official Pro subscription ($19.99/month in the US ($179.99/year) via Google Play or the App Store) removes the watermark, unlocks the full effects/transitions/templates library, enables 4K exports, and adds cloud storage. If you edit video commercially, it’s the only option with support and guaranteed updates. Get it officially: Google Play and App Store.

What Changed in 2026: Standard, Diamonds and the Export Trap

CapCut quietly rebuilt its plans in 2026, and older guides (including an earlier version of this page) no longer tell the whole story. There are now three tiers. A new Standard plan (about $9.99 a month, mobile only) sits between Free and Pro and unlocks the mid-range templates and effects.

Pro now costs $19.99 a month in the US — $179.99 a year — and unlocks everything, on mobile, desktop and web. Prices vary by country: the same Pro plan costs €23.99 a month in much of Europe and around $8 in Indonesia.

Paid items in the app now carry diamond badges. A blue diamond means the Standard plan covers that item; a purple diamond means you need Pro. The badge is small and easy to miss while editing — which leads to the biggest CapCut complaint of 2026.

The export trap. If even one item in your project — an effect, template, font, transition or song — carries a diamond badge, CapCut locks the export at the end and asks you to subscribe, or offers a watermarked export instead.

To escape without paying: go back to the timeline, check every element for a diamond or “Pro” badge, replace each paid item with a free alternative, and export again. With no paid items in the project, the free export goes through clean, with no watermark.

Auto captions changed too. Free accounts now get only a small quota of auto-caption generations — user testing in 2026 points to roughly 5 per rolling 30 days, counted across all your devices, and CapCut does not publish the exact number.

Pro removes the quota and adds a monthly pool of AI credits (about 1,200) and up to 1 TB of cloud storage.

What the “mod APK” is — honestly

Mod builds (like the v19.5.0-based build on our homepage) are unofficial copies with Pro features switched on. They cost nothing — but:

  • They are not from ByteDance and we have not verified their contents.
  • They can carry malware, stop working after official updates, or get your account flagged.
  • There is no support and no automatic update path.

Our full breakdown of the risks: Is CapCut Mod APK Safe?

The verdict

  • Casual editing: the free official app is enough for most people.
  • Serious creators: pay for Pro. It’s the only safe way to get every feature.
  • Mod builds: only if you understand the risk — scan the file, and never log banking or sensitive accounts into a modded app.

Download options: Get the mod build on our homepage and Official CapCut on Google Play.
